• Monday, August 14, 2017 from 8:00 a.m - 3:30 p.m., Programming for New Faculty will begin with an overview of the region and a coach tour of Charlotte. UNC Charlotte Academic Affairs and the Office of Community Relations will offer a New Faculty and Staff Regional Tour: A Historical, Cultural, and Commercial Exploration. This one-day event will begin at UNC Charlotte’s Harris Alumni Center (MAP) with breakfast and lunch provided for all participants, and will provide a great orientation to the history, culture, and commerce of the area as well as a relaxed introduction to new faculty and staff. Invitations will be sent to you via email but you must register.


  • Tuesday, August 15, 2017 Academic Affairs New Faculty Orientation; 3rd floor of the Student Union. New faculty members are required to attend New Faculty Orientation. Please note, registration for the event will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m Once registered, you will enjoy a continental breakfast and time to meet your Dean and other new faculty members.  Next, an overview of the University will be presented and people and programs to assist you in your teaching and research will be introduced. Those participating include Chancellor Philip Dubois, Provost Joan Lorden, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Christine Reed Davis, Yvette Huet, the Director of the ADVANCE Faculty Affairs and Diversity Office, Faculty President Richard Leeman, and representatives from Legal Affairs and The Counseling Center. During the Orientation, departmental representatives will be available at a Campus Resources Fair, where new faculty can meet with people from a number of different offices and learn about resources available on campus to help make their transition to the institution as smooth as possible. New faculty will also participate in a networking luncheon, and an interactive workshop on Assistance in Addressing Student Needs. The program will conclude at 3:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday, August 16, 2017 the New Faculty Human Resources and Benefits Orientation will take place from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., in Belk Gym 201. This Orientation will offer information about our Human Resources programs and benefits, including insurance and retirement. You may preview the available benefits at prior to attending.

    The location of Human Resources and Benefits Orientation on August 16 is Belk Gymnasium 201. If you have already obtained a Faculty/Staff parking pass the closest places to park are:
    • if premium gated access - Cone F/S deck
    • if no premium gated access - West deck
    • if no parking pass - Cone Visitor deck (pay-to-park)

  • Thursday, August 17, 2017 the University Convocation, sponsored jointly by the Administration and the Faculty, will hold a reception at 9:00 a.m. in McKnight Lobby, Cone University Center, which will be followed by the 9:30 a.m. Convocation in McKnight Hall.  Please wear your New Faculty name tags from the August 17th Orientation to the reception and meet your new colleagues at the University. The Convocation provides the University community with an opportunity to gather and consider the long - term goals and values of the campus, as well as the more immediate plans and challenges confronting us in the upcoming year.  A General Faculty Meeting in the form of a question and answer session with myself, the Chancellor and the Faculty President, will be held immediately following Convocation.   • Monday, August 21, 2017 Day of Convocation for Students will be held. Events begin at 8:00 a.m. with College Welcome Activities. The New Student Convocation will follow with check-in for faculty at 10:30 a.m. loading dock area of the James H. Barnhardt Student Activity Center (SAC). All faculty and first-year course instructors are encouraged to participate in the Day of Convocation to positively impact the success of our new students.  Due to the ceremonial nature of the event, faculty and first-year course instructors will process in wearing regalia. All faculty and first-year course instructors are asked to RSVP if they will attend and indicate if they will need rental of the regalia. Please visit for more information
