2018 First Week of Programming for New Faculty

Please check back in a couple of weeks when all events details will have been solidified

  • Monday, August 13, 2018: The Provost's New Faculty Orientation; 3rd floor of the Student Union. New faculty members are required to attend New Faculty Orientation.
  • Please note, registration for the event will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m Once registered, you will enjoy a continental breakfast and time to meet other new faculty members.  Next, an overview of the University will be presented and people and programs to assist you in your teaching and research will be introduced. Those participating include Chancellor Philip Dubois, Provost Joan Lorden, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Christine Reed Davis, Yvette Huet, the Director of the ADVANCE Faculty Affairs and Diversity Office, Faculty President Richard Leeman, and representatives from Legal Affairs and The Counseling Center. During the Orientation, departmental representatives will be available at a Campus Resources Fair, where new faculty can meet with people from a number of different offices and learn about resources available on campus to help make their transition to the institution as smooth as possible. New faculty will also participate in a networking luncheon, and an interactive workshop on Assistance in Addressing Student Needs. The program will conclude at 3:00 p.m.
  • Please park in the visitor areas of the Union parking deck (MAP)

  • A boxed-style lunch will be provided, but please contact us if you have special dietary needs

 

  • Tuesday, August 14, 2018 New Faculty and Staff Regional Tour: A Historical, Cultural, and Commercial Exploration 
  • UNC Charlotte Academic Affairs and the Office of Community Relations will offer a program that will begin with breakfast and overview of the region followed by a coach tour of Charlotte.

  • Thursday, August 16, 2018: University Convocation
  • 8:30 AM:  Light Refreshments (Lucas Room, Cone University Center)
  • 9:30 AM:  University Convocation (McKnight Hall, Cone University Center)
  • The University Convocation is a chance for members of the campus community to hear about UNC Charlotte’s long-term goals and immediate plans and issues.  Faculty and staff are invited to the University Convocation and the reception preceding it.
  • Speakers will include the President of the Staff Council and President of the Student Body.  The Faculty President will present the faculty agenda for 2018-2019.  Also addressing the campus community will be Provost Joan Lorden and Chancellor Dubois, who will speak on the state of the University.
  • The University Convocation is also a time to welcome new members of the faculty and professional staff and to recognize faculty members who have been granted permanent tenure, those who have been promoted to full professor, and those who are beginning their 25th year of service to the University.  The newest Bonnie E. Cone Early-Career Professor also will be introduced.
  • A general faculty meeting in the form of a question-and-answer session will immediately follow the Convocation. All members of the campus community are welcome to remain for the meeting.

  • Friday, August 17, 2018:  New Faculty Human Resources and Benefits Orientation
  • This Orientation, which runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. will offer information about our Human Resources programs and benefits, including insurance and retirement. You may preview the available benefits at hr.uncc.edu/benefits prior to attending.

 

  • Monday, August 20, 2018: New Student Convocation
  • The Day of Convocation is a day dedicated to welcome and introduce new undergraduate students (freshmen and transfers) to the UNC Charlotte community. The day starts with students assembling with the Dean of their colleges for the Dean’s Welcome. Then, students will walk as a group to the Halton Arena to participate in the New Student Convocation ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by departmental and collegiate activities.
